Star Trek: Apollo

NCC-82789

Welcome to the USS Apollo!

It's 2399, Starfleet has managed to partially stabilize the long-thought useless Barzan Wormhole and has re-deployed Task Force 38 to the Delta Quadrant, to renew exploratory efforts in the area almost 30 years after the starship Voyager first arrived in the Ocampa system. A Rhode Island-class frigate, the USS Apollo has been tasked with re-establishing contact with a number of races in an area the Federation is now calling the Nacene Reach, which includes areas of space inhabited by the Vidiians, Talaxians, Ocampa, and Kazon.

The Apollo is an LGBTQ-inclusive writing group.

Hi, All,

Thanks for hanging in there last month, we did a really good job with activity and I think the writing we did was really worthy of recognition, hence awarding the Apollo Task Force 38's Sim of the Month for February!

“The crew of the Apollo remain consistently one of the most active groups in the fleet, thanks especially to Panic and Mark (the two AGMs) working to remind people of tags and keep the pace moving. In the month of February, the Apollo wrote 35 posts spread across 14 entries, due to the high level of collaboration and volume of joint posts. The characters are interesting and the group is managing to maintain a focus on quality even with their high volume.”

To go along with this, congrats also to Panic, who won Task Force 38's Player of the Month and our local Player of the Month citation as well. :)

“Panic has been consistently one of the strongest players aboard the Apollo, and as XO has really stepped up to help me keep the sim moving as I’ve taken on more and more responsibilities elsewhere in the fleet. On top of being active, their writing is superb and they have helped immensely brainstorming character arcs and being a vibrant, integral part of the story the Apollo is crafting, and thus the story the Task Force is creating.”

I'm awarding Post of the Month to Mathias Darnell and Theo McDonnell for "Post 30 - Broken Bow," as I thought it was an excellent interlude between two junior officers.

In non-monthly news, I also want to announce that I've awarded two fleet level awards:

The Writing Profiency Ribbon ("Awarded to a player for showing excellence in writing and development of storylines and of characters they write as.") to Panic:

“Panic is one of the strongest writers I have worked with in my long tenure as a player in multiple fleets and organizations. Their writing is consistent and engaging. Cal Everett, their main character, has severe mysophobia and is a Betazoid without the traditional telepathic abilities associated with that species. This character is written in a way that makes these aspects of their personality and history work seamlessly into the story, and we can always count on excellent posts from Panic.”

and

The Collaboration Ribbon ("The Collaboration Ribbon is awarded to individuals who are deemed to have worked hard in collaboration with others and who embodies the true meaning of teamwork and collaboration, perhaps through joint posts, website creation or by joining different Offices in the fleet.") to Mark:

“Mark is an incredible team player, not only helping me keep track of characters with a spreadsheet he created all on his own, but also keeping tabs with players in the two departments he writes in, which is never something I’d expect from an in-character department head. In his short time aboard the Apollo and in the fleet, he’s really stepped up to write an astonishing number of joint and solo posts and to really be the heart of our sim, in addition to joining the specs team and writing up the Steamrunner-class.”

Well deserved, all around!

» January Awards + Roster Modifications

Posted on Mon Feb 10th, 2020 @ 6:17pm by Captain Sean Gaudain in General News

Hi, All,

Awards:

For January I'm awarding post of the month to T'Pom for his introduction; it was a great way of getting to know a new and interesting character.

As to player of the month, Mark has really hit the ground running on the Apollo, participating at a very high level right from the beginning. He's been willing to do joint posts with anyone and is helping the group leaders keep an eye on activity. Additionally, he's volunteered to be part of the specs team in his first month in Bravo Fleet, and that's the kind of energy we like to see. He will also be receiving the Task Force 38 Player of the Month award.

Roster Modifications:

Due to activity levels, I am moving Lt. J.G. Aiken Roush back to Assistant Chief Security/Tactical Officer and moving Lt. Róisín Hughes to Assistant Chief Medical Officer. I have also deactivated Ensign T'Mol, who was to be our Chief Nurse. No hard feelings, but we need to open those slots back up to allow people to apply for them.

I see activity picking back up and I'm looking forward to seeing how things progress in February!

Hi, everyone,

We've had another great month on the Apollo--bandwidth issues aside. :)

This month, I'm giving Post of the Month to Post 16 - The Maxwell Meeting, written by Nysota, Panic, and myself. (Almost all of the posts this month were joint posts with me, so... sorry about that.) We often want our characters to be likable all-stars, but Dr. Maxwell definitely has some issues in his past that set the captain and first officer on edge in a way that was fun to write and interesting to read.

I'm awarding Player of the Month to Ensign Mathias Darnell, who's really jumped into things and wrote two huge joint-posts within days of joining. He's been great to write with and I'm looking forward to seeing big things from him going forward.

Hello, all,

Congratulations on a great first month as the Apollo. The move from the Diligent has gone more smoothly than I could have imagined, thanks to all of your hard work. I'm really pleased with the direction our posts are going and the quality of the writing we're doing.

I want to announce three awards for this month, and this is something I'll do every month.

First, our local post and player of the month which will also automatically be nominated for the Task Force's equivalent awards.

Player of the Month: J.L. Galloway, aka Lieutenant, J.G. Kimberly Wilson

Jay has been active since the very start of this sim when it was still the Diligent and he has been incredibly patient and supportive as we’ve gone through periods of inactivity and command shifts, even going so far as to make an entirely new character for our move this month to the Apollo. He is highly supportive of the rest of the crew and makes our Discord channel a fun place just to chat, while also performing very well in all of our joint-posts and making his character (an inexperienced junior officer) appropriately enthusiastic and eager to prove herself in-character.

Post of the Month: “The Paralysis of Choice” by Shenmi, aka Lt. Cmdr. Niun

In the simming world, it’s so easy to fall into standard tropes for characters: Vulcan science officers, Klingon security officers, and other expected, anticipated combinations that lead to predictable character development. I want to recognize Shenmi, aka Lt. Cmdr. Niun for developing a custom race (the Mri) with a well-thought culture that meshes very well with the Star Trek universe in ways that many fan races fail to do. In addition, his first post was a fascinating and intriguing look into this character’s psyche that showed us a lot about him and led us to want to know more.

And, second,

I have nominated AdvisedPanic, aka Commander Cal Everett for the Dedicated Service Citation - 6 Months, for having more than six months of tenure in the fleet. It hasn't yet been awarded, but that's an automatic process. Congratulations on being with us through this milestone!
